Officer-involved shooting
Initially, information pouring in from the scene of the crime indicated an officer-involved shooting following the armed robbery of a title pawn business on Atlanta Highway.
Suspect flees to neighborhood
The 19-year-old suspect fled the scene into a nearby neighborhood.
Suspect located in shed
The suspect hid in a shed behind a residence until K9 Officer "Bodi" picked up his scent. Bodi followed the scent to the shed. When the suspect showed a weapon while trying to flee the scene, Bodi latched on to the suspect's arm and sustained three gunshot wounds to the face.

Bodi is an 11-year-old German Shepherd who has worked with the Montgomery Police Department for 9 years.

This photo was taken a few days before the crime. Bodi sustained three gunshot wounds to the face on Wednesday, December 14 while protecting his handler from an armed robbery suspect.

Frank Raven
19-year-old Frank Raven is the suspect charged in the armed robbery and Bodi's shooting. Raven spent several days in the hospital recovering from a gunshot wound to the leg (from Bodi's handler) he sustained during the crime. Raven has been charged with first-degree robbery, three counts of attempted second-degree assault and attempted murder of a police dog.

Doctors originally believed Bodi would be blind following the incident. His left eye had to be removed and his right eye sustained serious damage.

Bodi's right eye began to regain sight slowly after surgery.

Bodi was originally scheduled to retire from MPD just three weeks after the crime.
Retirement Ceremony
At his official retirement ceremony, Bodi was honored with a cake, among other things. After the incident, Bodi was retired from MPD and allowed to return home to live with his handler.

Purple Heart and a Bone
Bodi was awarded a City of Montgomery Purple Heart in recognition of injuries received in the line of duty. But, he was more excited by the large bone waiting for him.

Doctors say once Bodi's hair grows back, no one will ever notice his injuries. He has regained sight in his right eye and is doing well.

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Injured Montgomery Police Department K9 "Bodi" was honorably retired from the Montgomery Police Department today in a ceremony held at MPD headquarters.

Bodi was presented with a shadow box detailing his time at MPD from his badge, down to his training collar. He was also awarded with a City of Montgomery Purple Heart in recognition of injuries sustained in the line of duty.

According to a presentation given by Bodi's Veterinarians at the ceremony, once the K9's hair grows back, no one will ever be able to tell he was injured.
