ALDOT: Lane closures for removal of Northern Blvd railroad crossing Oct. 19-21

Weather permitting, work to remove the railroad crossing on State Route 152 (Northern Boulevard) between Lower Wetumpka Road and Jackson Ferry Road in Montgomery will begin Friday, Oct 19 at 11 p.m.

Eastbound and westbound lanes of the Northern Boulevard near the railroad crossing will be closed during the Alabama Department of Transportation’s operation to remove the crossing, improving the smoothness of the roadway. It is anticipated lanes will reopen to traffic Sunday, Oct. 21 at 11 p.m.

Motorists should consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this construction to improve Alabama’s roadways.

State Trooper catches Fitzpatrick man smoking crack while driving

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - One Alabama State Trooper was incredibly aware of his surroundings while driving on I-85 Tuesday afternoon. He spotted a man smoking something from a piece of aluminum foil in a car next to him and initiated a traffic stop.

Authorities say the trooper was traveling north on I-85 at the 13mm when he observed the driver of the vehicle next to him smoking something from a piece of aluminum foil. The driver was using both hands to do this and had taken both of his hands off of the steering wheel of the vehicle.

The trooper initiated a traffic stop and determined that the man was smoking crack cocaine.

The driver, 57-year-old Joseph Felder of Fitzpatrick, AL, was cited for reckless driving and arrested for DUI and possession of a controlled substance.

A mug shot of Felder was not immediately available.

ALDOT has issued a new traffic advisory:
 

Route: I-85
Direction: Northbound
Mile Markers: 21.5 thru 47.5
County: Macon
Location: I-85 norhtbound from milepost 21.5 (just south of the Shorter Exit) to milepost 47.5 (Macon/Lee County line).
Description: WEATHER PERMITTING - Beginning Monday, Oct. 15, contractors will begin resurfacing I-85 North from mile marker 21.5 to mile marker 47.5.


This work should take approximately ten (10) working days to complete, weather permitting.  During this time there will be lane closures in place Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to approximately 3:30 p.m. within the limits of the project.

ALDOT Traffic Advisory: Evening lane closures expected in I-85

ALDOT has issued a new traffic advisory:

County: Montgomery


Location: I-85 between mile marker 4 (Ann Street-Exit 3) and mile marker 9.50 (North of the Taylor Road-Exit 9) northbound and southbound.

Description: Weather Permitting, beginning Monday, Oct. 8 through Wednesday, Oct. 10, lane closures will occur from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m.

Crews will be performing maintenance to the traffic stripe, please use caution while traveling throught this area.

Montgomery woman killed in Sunday morning crash

Montgomery woman killed in Sunday morning crash

MONTGOMERY CO., AL (WSFA) - A single-vehicle crash in the early hours of Sunday morning claimed the life of a Montgomery woman and injured another person.

Alabama State Troopers say 25-year-old Ashely Nicole Barns was killed in an accident off of AL 110, two miles east of Montgomery, around 5 a.m. Sunday. Barns was the passenger in a 2001 Honda Accord driven by Roosevelt King.

The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. King was transferred to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

No additional information is available at this time as authorities continue to investigate.

Lane Closures on Arba and South Streets this Weekend and Next Week

MONTGOMERY – Resurfacing work will continue this weekend into next week on I-85 service roads in the downtown area. Weather permitting, there will be lane closures on Arba Street and South Street beginning Friday, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. through Sunday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m.

Additionally, weather permitting, work will continue during the week of Oct. 8 until completed. Motorists can expect intermittent lane closures between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. each evening.

There will be at least one lane open to traffic on both streets during the resurfacing project but travel delays can be expected.

Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this construction to improve Alabama’s roadways.
