Auburn Montgomery scored the first 11 points of today’s game, jumped out to a 47-10 halftime advantage and cruised to a 82-32 win over Morris College this afternoon.
Tina Odume led the Warhawks with 22 points and 17 rebounds, setting career-highs in both categories for the second time in the last nine days. The 50-point victory was the largest for AUM since a 74-19 win over Southern Wesleyan during the 2002-03 season.
“Tonight’s game allowed us to get some playing time for everyone on the team,” Head Coach Dan Davis said. “And for everyone to have success as we head into the second of conference play, I thought that was one of the biggest positives that you can take from a game like this. Our girls played really well.”
The Warhawks improve to 18-5 in their last non-conference game of the season. Morris dropped to 2-19.
All 10 players for AUM scored in today’s game. Ashley Rush scored a season-high 13 points off the bench. Katie Williams added 10 points, while Kamesha Strong, LaKenya Drayton and Marren Schwartz each had eight. Strong added a team-high five assists, and Schwartz grabbed nine rebounds.
Sophomore forward Chelsea Haggermaker also scored her first points of the season, hitting a layup in the closing seconds.
Odume had previously set career-highs of 17 points and 15 rebounds in a win over Mobile on Jan. 24. She bettered both of those totals tonight, hitting 10-of-15 shots overall. Ten of her rebounds were on the offensive side of the ball.
“Tina is just getting better every day,” Davis said. “She had another really strong performance, and not just through what showed up in the box score. She’s getting better keeping the ball up high, running the floor in transition, all of those little things. She’s really playing with a lot of confidence right now.”
Overall, the Warhawks shot 50.7 percent from the floor, while holding the Lady Hornets to 24.1 percent shooting. AUM outrebounded Morris by a 58-28 margin. Jayla Moon led the Lady Hornets with 12 points and nine rebounds.
AUM returns to Southern States Athletic Conference play next Thursday with a key road matchup at Faulkner. The 19th-ranked Lady Eagles (21-4, 11-2) hold a half-game edge in the SSAC West Division over the Warhawks after defeating Mobile earlier this afternoon. Thursday’s game begins at 5:30 p.m.
