The Number 2 ranked Auburn Montgomery men’s tennis team blanked Emmanuel 9-0 in its season and Southern States Athletic Conference opener on Friday.
The Warhawks swept all three doubles matches with 8-0 scores. The tandems of Nicolas Pinones-Haltenhoff/Miguel Grifol, Josh Reason/Othmane Lalami and Zinelabidine Jouini/Miguel Dasso all had no issues with their Lion opponents.
AUM was similarly successful in singles. Pinones-Haltenhoff had a slight challenge at No. 1 singles against Emmanuel’s Ty Smith, but he still emerged victorious in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Jouini, Grifol and Lalami each dropped just one game from the 2-4 positions. Reason shutout Emmanuel’s Austin Spivey 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, while Dasso won 6-1, 6-1 from the sixth spot.
The Warhawks are now 1-0 (1-0 SSAC), while the Lions drop to 1-1 (0-1).
AUM hosts West Florida next Friday at 1 p.m. in the home opener for the Warhawks. They also play Martin Methodist at 1 p.m. the following afternoon.
