Faulkner Univ. campus shooting suspect identified; wife continues fight for life | News
MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA)- The Montgomery Police Department is releasing the name and a mug shot of the suspect they say walked onto a university campus Tuesday morning and critically shot his wife.
Medics rushed the female victim with life-threatening injuries to an area hospital after her husband, 37-year-old Reginald Brown, shot her just before noon Tuesday.
After the shooting, Brown left Faulkner University's Atlanta Highway campus but was later apprehended and arrested. He is now charged with attempted murder, domestic violence and unauthorized use of a firearm. He is being held on a bond totaling $516,000.
The victim, not identified by name, was upgraded from life-threatening to stable but serious condition Tuesday evening.
Montgomery police held a briefing on the campus saying that the shooting occurred near a maintenance building, not near students. MPD commended Faulkner officials for their quick response.
Faulkner University released a statement saying:
A shooting occurred on our Montgomery campus today. The suspect has been apprehended and all offices and classes are operating on their normal schedules. In what appears to have been a domestic situation, a contract employee was injured in the shooting and has been taken to a local hospital for treatment. Her condition is not known at this time. The Montgomery Police Department is following up on the incident. At no time were any students involved in the incident. Faulkner University asks everyone to be in prayer for the victim and offers its sincere gratitude to campus security and law enforcement officers for their rapid response.
Some Faulkner University students received a text alert saying: "(Active Shooter on Campus) Emergency! Armed person on campus. Go to nearest room and lock door. If off campus, do not enter campus. Follow instructions from auth." Campus leaders, however, are confirming that many students and faculty never received the alert. An internal probe into the issue is underway.
For a brief period of time Alabama Christian Academy, near Faulkner, was placed on lock down, but that was later lifted.
