The Auburn Montgomery women’s basketball team slipped in the fifth regular-season edition of the NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll and are now ranked 25th, the national office announced Tuesday.
The Warhawks, which are 14-5 on the season, but just 3-3 in their last six games, earned 63 points in the poll and are just 53 points from cracking the top-20.
Lubbock Christian, who held the top position in the poll for four consecutive polls earlier this season, return to No. 1 following one week in the second spot. Freed-Hardeman moved up to No. 2, while last week’s top team, Vanguard (Calif.), slipped to third. Oklahoma City and Westminster (Utah) each held its position in the poll, checking in at fourth and fifth, respectively.
AUM is one of three teams ranked from the Southern States Athletic Conference. Joining the Warhawks were Lee at No. 6 and Faulkner at No. 22. League member Southern Poly was among the others receiving votes.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and unaffiliated group. The sixth regular-season Division I Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll will be announced on Jan. 29.
AUM will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 24, when it travels to conference foe Mobile for a 5:30 p.m. tilt.
