Virginia College Named to 2013 Top Military-Friendly Schools List | News
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Jan. 21, 2013 – Virginia College has recently been named to the 2013 Military Friendly Schools ® list, which annually recognizes the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that do the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus. Now in its fourth year, the list was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 12,000 VA-approved schools nationwide by Victory Media, a media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life.
“Virginia College is honored to be named as one of the elite Military Friendly Schools in the country for the third year in a row,” said Mike Betz, General Manager of Military Student Initiatives at Education Corporation of America, the parent company of Virginia College, Ecotech Institute and Golf Academy of America. “We want the best for all of our students and strive to make each of their educational experiences as positive as it can be.”
Through its Military Student Center, the school offers a go-to resource for military personnel looking to pursue an education at Virginia College and provides assistance in planning their educational experience as well as explaining benefits offered by Virginia College. “With this Center, we ensure individualized assistance to our nation’s most deserving heroes. We consider ourselves privileged to have the opportunity to help channel their military training into a promising career in the private sector,” added Betz.
Those eligible include active-duty members serving in any of the branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, retired military, guardsmen, reservist military personnel and anyone eligible for U.S. government veteran benefits. Military-friendly benefits offered at Virginia College include military scholarships such as the Patriots Service Scholarship, Post 9/11 Scholarship Program and the Armed Forces Recognition Scholarship. Military service members may also transfer up to 75 percent of required credits from other accredited schools, military training and programs such as the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES). The school has also enacted a military-friendly deployment policy with many programs available completely online.
“Inclusion on the 2013 list of Military Friendly Schools shows Virginia College’s commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students,” said Victory Media Vice President and G.I. Jobs Director Sean Collins.
The survey-tabulation process, methodology and weightings that comprise the 2013 list were independently verified by Ernst and Young LLP and can be found at www.militaryfriendlyschools.com.
