Title (Max 100 Characters)
The Pike Road Fire Department encourages citizens to be prepared for emergencies. A natural disaster can happen without warning. Pike Road is no exception. But what is scarier than fires, is that too many people do not realize they are unprepared for a natural disaster until it is too late.
In an effort to be prepared in the community, the Pike Road Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary organized a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) class through the Montgomery County EMA. The CERT class was taught by Montgomery County EMA Director, Mike Stoudenmier.
CERT is part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Citizen Corp Program. CERT members give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site. The CERT class is a seven week course and participates were trained in what to do during a disaster and how to be mentally prepared.
Instructional focus is on first aid, search and rescue, fire suppression and disaster psychology. The class teaches members looking to be properly trained on how to be prepared for an emergency in Pike Road.
On June 7, the Pike Road Fire Department graduated a new round of volunteers who have been trained to help rescue workers when disaster strikes. A total of twenty-one participates invested a little time and a little effort to be prepared in their community. The Pike Road Fire Department CERT is made up of ladies auxiliary members and affiliates of the Pike Road Fire Department.
The CERT will be reinforcement to the Pike Road Fire Department, Montgomery County EMA and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department. This devoted, committed and exceptional team of men and women may be activated in the event of a natural disaster, crises or other major event. The team would like to stress to area citizens the importance of getting involved and emergency preparedness.
CERT members who completed the course include: Carol Miller, Betty Casey, Jim Miller, Debbie Green, Jeanine Hughes, Elizabeth Staten, Tony Staten, Amber Staten, Emily Bunnel, Anne Ward, Jerry Ward, Jessica Shaw, Brad Shaw, Rose Amerson, Emily Powell, Ben Powell, Jimmy Grubbs, Judy Grubbs, Dana Nation, Amanda Davis and Britt Grubbs.
